Farm Information

Smith Stables is a small farm located just west of Grand Rapids, Michigan and about 15 minutes from the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Founded in 1998 smith stables has prided itself in that personal touch that keeps it's clientele coming back year after year. A great deal of the clients at the farm today are the same people that were here in the beginning. "It has been wonderful to watch them grow and share in their successes. Many new clients have joined us along the way and we have made many new friends." says owner Autumn Smith.

The farm has stayed small so that each horse get's the proper amount of attention needed to get the best performance out of it. Whether it be in the breeding shed or the show pen. "Horses come here and then are treated like they are our very own."

The farm provides many different services for its clients from being a full service equine reproductive facility to a full service marketing facility. Each spring the excitement builds awaiting the arrival of the new foals. Each and everyone gets special treatment as it is greeted into the world. Great detail is given to making sure that the foals are handled daily. By the time they are weaned all know how to lead, clip, tie and get bathed with no hassles at all. "We love our babies here and feel it is of great benefit not only to the foals but to us that they are worked with while still very young."

Mares are usually bred back here on the farm via shipped semen or to the stallions here at the farm. Mares are also bred here with frozen semen and a good number of embryo transfers are done every year. The farm takes in horses of all breeds and collects stallions almost on a daily basis. Many clients choose to drive their stallions in to be collected so they can go back home to continue the training of their particular discipline. Smith Stables has stood some great stallions such as ATA Bey Starr, Shaklans Padron NA as well as numerous others. Currently we the Padrons Psyche son "LC Psulybration". He is under new ownership and we have high expectations for him. The new owners are very excited and committed to getting some great foals on the ground.

Smith Stables is also very well known for the great job it does fitting up and turning out halter horses whether it be for show or for marketing purposes. "Paying attention to detail is the key as well as good old fashion elbow grease. We have often thought of expanding but always reconsider. We have gotten this far because we give each horse special attention. Our clients know that when their horse comes here it will get worked on every day."

A great deal of the business the farm receives involves conditioning and prep for pictures and videos. Both are a very important key to proper marketing. Autumn works with Jim Kelly to provide marketing services and has had great success selling horses. Most of the current year babies stay on to be conditioned for pictures and video and also attend the futurity we have here in Michigan. Some will even stay on to be conditioned for Scottsdale. a high percentage of the foals are sold before they are yearlings. "It is very rare for us to have a horse here in its yearling year. it seems we sell them off and then have none to take to the regional shows. I guess that's a good thing though."

Each season brings horses in for different reasons. All are as important as the next. "we are very thankful for the great clients we have had the opportunity to work with and grateful for the trust they place in us each and every time they drop their precious cargo off at our farm."
